Back in Colombo…

We are back in Colombo, yeap return trip took us around 14 hours as it was raining big time from Jaffna to Colombo! Just checked the reading, it’s a 1,200 kilometer round trip…

Radiator boil-out

We had the second radiator boil-out today, I mean the temperature went above the red line of the heat sensor and we had to stop. Some army guys helped me out and showed me that there is a leakage in the radiator pipe line, which Sudath Auto fixed few days back… Army guys were very helpful and guided me to the garage in Stanley Road, and for them it was matter of an hour to fix it and they charged me only 300 bucks! If it was “Sudath Auto” guys they would have charged me at-least 3,000 bucks I’ll take a gallon of water with me, just to be sure! So if you have a breakdown in Jaffna ask for the Robert’s Garage in Stanley Road, Jaffna…

Internet in Kayts

We don’t have 3G coverage here in Kayts but good 2G coverage. Internet has to be through the GPRS at 56 Kbps. I checked Airtel, Dialog and Mobitel for coverage and found Dialog to have the best signal strength; other two had only 60% where as Dialog had 100%. So we have to go with Dialog, but we had to also choose a broadband package which suits us. We had the monthly 299/- and the daily 3/- as the best options…

If you take the monthly 299/- connection you get around 1 GB of data and with the tax the price would be 366/- yeah we have around 22% tax on the mobile connections…

In the other hand if you take the daily connection it’s 3/- for 10 MB and with the tax it’s 3.68/- so it would cost around 110/- per month.

Since my sister and mother don’t use much internet and they can’t use much with the GPRS connection, we thought of going with the daily one. To receive a digital photo of 1280 × 720 it’s only 90 Kb in average so even if they receive around 10 – 20 pictures and mail a day it’s not gonna run out of 10 Mb limit, let’s see. if they run out we still have the option of switching to the monthly connection by a simple SMS…

Kayts Causeway…

So I’m in Kayts now it’s the largest island in Sri Lanka, I mean apart from the mainland. It’s connected to the mainland by a long causeway. From our place it’s around 20 kilometers drive to the Jaffna town, and the road to Jaffna is not so perfect but not that bad either! Driving to Jaffna is so beautiful as you see a lot of fishing nets and boats in both side of the causeway! Below are some pictures I snapped…

13 hours of travelling… and we are in Jaffna!

We started our trip around 4:00 AM in Colombo and reached Velanai around 6:00 PM. Yeah it’s long drive around 450 KM, the A9 road is going through a lot of construction (carpeting) work which made us wait in a lot of one line(way) stops and our radiator also boil-out which took around one hour to fix, thanks to the construction workers who offered us water and help…

Jaffna is having it’s monsoon rains now, and it’s the time of the year where they start planting paddy and other crops! We hoped that we can see some planting but planting hasn’t started as the monsoon rain was delayed by weeks and they are waiting for the grounds to be bit wetter!

I can’t post any pictures as the internet link here in Velanai is not that good, I only have GPRS signal! I’ll try posting some in the night…

Amirthan is coping up with Varshini quite ok, he didn’t have any jealousy issues but he want to do what she does like sleeping in the cot, making noise like her and stuff… Little bit of sharing issue is also there, but we are trying to get things sorted out…

Ironing Nappies

What I’m busy with now? Of-cause with the new arrival at home, she is keeping me busy with all nappy washing and ironing stuff. It’s going at one nappy per every 1/2 hour… No no you got me wrong, it’s doesn’t take 1/2 hour to iron a nappy, but for her to wet one

Had a wonderful birthday today; best part is that I got to stay the entire day with my two little ones and to see how they are coping up with each other. Amirthan enjoys the new company, and pet her when she is crying and wanted to carry her around and stuff; but when she is having milk he wanna lay next to Sutharsshini in the other side. I think we need to find the balance in between them and keep them going. By the way thanks a lot for all the facebook wishes, you guys made my day…
